Biblically Singing

The Book of Monkees, Chapter 1, Verses 1-20

  1. Verily, behold, we cometh forth, walking down the street,

  2. And lo, we are met with the most curious glances from every soul that we meet.

    ...

  3. Hark! We are the Monkees, and the people do declare that we caper and cavort,

  4. But lo, we are ever occupied with singing, and find no time to disparage others.

    ...

  5. We go whither we desire, and do according to our will,

  6. For we are not given to restlessness, for ever there is a new thing to behold.

    ...

  7. Hark! We are the Monkees, and the people do declare that we engage in frivolity,

  8. But lo, we are ever occupied with singing, and find no time to belittle anyone.

    ...

  9. We seek but to be kind, come, and witness our song and play,

  10. For we are the young generation, and have much to proclaim.

    ...

  11. At any hour, or in any place, look ye o’er thy shoulder,

  12. For lo, ye shall find us standing there.

    ...

  13. Hark! We are the Monkees, and the people do declare that we play the fool,

  14. But lo, we are ever occupied with singing, and find no time to deprecate or underrate.

    ...

  15. Hark! We are the Monkees, and the people do declare that we idle and goof off,

  16. But lo, we are ever occupied with singing, and find no time to deflate or depreciate.

    ...

  17. We seek but to be kind, come, and witness our song and play,

  18. For we are the young generation, and have much to proclaim.

    ...

  19. Hark! We are the Monkees.

  20. Hark! We are the Monkees.

The Book of Nightly Temptation, Chapter 1

  1. And lo, it came to pass upon a night most rare, even a night of wonder and bewilderment.

  2. For the moon did shine with gentle majesty, and the air was filled with sweet confusion.

  3. Yea, it was such a night; behold, a night to steal away, for the time was meet and the hour was nigh.

  4. And thine eyes met mine, and with but a glance, thou gavest unto me a sign.

  5. Verily, I perceived that this was the moment appointed unto me.

  6. But behold, thou camest with Jim, my companion and friend of many years.

  7. And I stood there, my heart divided, desirous to steal thee away from him.

  8. For I said within myself, “If I do it not, surely another shall do it in my stead.”

  9. Yea, if I do it not, another shall surely take thee.

  10. If I refrain, yet another shall not.

  11. If I hold my peace, another shall speak.

  12. If I stand still, another shall pursue.

  13. And lo, it was such a night — even such a night — of confusion and moonlight sweet.

  14. A night to depart in secrecy, for the moment was appointed and the shadows did beckon.

  15. And mine ears did hear, and I was astonished; my heart did leap within me.

  16. For thou saidst unto me, “Let us go forth and walk upon the street.”

  17. Yea, though thou camest with Jim, thy hand was in mine.

  18. And I, though torn in conscience, did take thee from him.

  19. For again I said: “If I do it not, lo, another shall surely do it.”

  20. Yea, I say unto thee, if I do it not, another shall.

  21. If I hold back, another shall come forth.

  22. If I wait, the chance shall pass to another.

  23. For it was such a night — such a night indeed.

The Book of Walls, Chapter 1

1:1 And lo, the multitude crieth out, saying, We have no need of education.

1:2 Neither do we require the governance of thoughts, nor the chains thereof.

1:3 Let there be no shadow of mockery in the place of learning, yea, no dark sarcasm in the house of instruction. 1:4 Verily, let the teachers depart from the children, and trouble them no more. 1:5 Yea, I say unto thee, O teacher, depart hence; touch not the children, for they are thine no longer. 1:6 For all these things are but another brick in the wall. 1:7 Yea, thou thyself art but another brick in the wall.

1:8 Again, the cry arose, saying, We need not the teachings of men, 1:9 Nor the rule of minds by unseen hands. 1:10 Let not the voice of scorn darken the halls of youth. 1:11 Teachers, be gone from them; for the children are weary of thy dominion. 1:12 O teacher, hearken and obey: leave us be, and come no further. 1:13 For behold, thou art no more than a stone upon stone — another brick in the wall. 1:14 Truly, thou art but another brick in the wall.

1:15 And a voice of warning was lifted up among them, saying, If thou eat not thy meat, how then canst thou partake of the pudding? 1:16 Yea, how can one receive the sweetness of reward, if he hath not first endured the bitter portion? 1:17 Thou! Yea, thou who lingerest behind the place of the bike stands, hearken unto this decree: 1:18 Thou canst not have the pudding, except thou first eat thy meat. 1:19 Stand thou still, O laddy, and be rebuked!

1:20 Thou! Even thou behind the bike stands! 1:21 Know this: thou shalt not receive thy pudding, unless thy plate be emptied of meat.
